Leadership Development Series Certificate Program

The Leadership Development Series certificate (LDSC) will provide a solid foundation for those looking to enter leadership positions and for those currently in front-line or mid-level management positions. Hundreds have already experienced this training, enhancing their skills to help them stand out as a leader in today's challenging, competitive and dynamic marketplace. A wide range of topics are included, focusing on the essential skills required by managers in their everyday decision-making and problem solving. Topics include communication, ethics, performance management, change management, team building, planning and project management. These courses provide practical assignments to deal with real-life business issues.

Admission Requirements:  There are no prerequisites to this program.  Register and pay for courses individually.

Certificate Criteria:  10 compulsory courses. Each course is 2.0 credits.

LDSC 201 Communication

Communication skills are essential to all aspects of life. This course will specifically address business communications. You will learn what mechanisms are available today and how to use them to communicate your message.

LDSC 202 Employment Law

Today's workplace is highly regulated from the commencement of the employment relationship through to its termination. An examination of both statutory law and common law will be undertaken in both federal and provincial jurisdictions. Students will review employment standards, health and safety, labour relations, pay equity and Human Rights Legislation.

LDSC 203 Human Relations

This course will provide you with the appropriate skills and knowledge to effectively recruit personnel, train them and manage their performance in a professional manner.

LDSC 204 Project Management

This course provides the practical knowledge to start and complete a project successfully from a leadership perspective. You will learn how the elements of the Project Management Body of Knowledge.

LDSC 205 Performance Management

This course will focus on performance analysis, counselling, coaching, constructive feedback, conflict resolution, performance management systems and overall strategies for performance management.

LDSC 206 Leading Teams

Teams have become the fundamental building blocks of many organizations today. Leading in a team environment requires competencies, tools and techniques that focus on group dynamics rather than solely on individual performance or contribution. You will be learn the key skills and abilities needed to lead a team-based organization.

LDSC 207 Managing Change

In this course, you will learn environmental scanning, identifying trends, implementing and measuring successful change - essential to developing and managing change to benefit organizations. Organizational readiness and risk assessment will also be covered in the context of best practices.

LDSC 208 Finance

Financial documents explain how money is used in a business and can be interpreted to predict an organization's success. You will learn about how the ethical and effective use of financial statements and ratio calculations for forecasting and budget preparation can ensure that investments or withdrawals within an organization will produce a healthy return or mitigate decline in other areas.

LDSC 209 Leading Responsibly

Leaders need to assess the impact of businesses in an ethical and globally sustainable way using measurements such as corporate social responsibility and triple bottom-line accounting.

LDSC 210 Creative & Critical Thinking

Today more than ever, leaders need to be creative and critical thinkers in order to deal with all aspects of organizational, strategic and societal situations or environments. You will learn how to think creatively and critically in order to apply these skills to roles in the organization, and professional and personal situations.
