The Financial Aid office is dedicated to assisting Aboriginal students to meet the costs of their tuition and living expenses while studying full and part-time. Aboriginal students encountering financial difficulties are encouraged to seek assistance from an Advisor in Humber’s Financial Aid office.
Humber offers a variety of Bursaries and Scholarships, listed below:

Aboriginal Health Careers Bursary and Scholarship Awards

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to First Nations (status or non-status), Inuit or Métis students in health science programs of at least two years duration who have demonstrated financial need while excelling academically (GPA > 80%) and being involved in their community. Recipients will show suitability and commitment to their field of study.
Value: Varies
Deadline: June 1
 

Canada Post Aboriginal Incentive Award

In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to aboriginal students who are in full-time post-secondary studies and took at least 12 months off from education prior to returning (mature students) and who have completed at least one academic year of a multi-year program, based on an application package and letters of reference.
Value: $1,000

Casino Rama’s Awards for Excellence for Aboriginal Students

Entrance and In-Course
Criteria: Provides financial support to aboriginal students from Ontario who are pursuing a graduate degree (i.e. Masters or Ph.D.), professional degree (i.e. law, medicine, dentistry, etc.) or post-secondary education (which includes an undergraduate degree).
Value: Entrance $5,000; In-Course $2,500

Charlotte Carter Memorial Scholarship

In-Course
Criteria: Available to a full-time student of Native descent (Status, Non-Status, Inuit or Métis) enrolled in the second-year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at either a college or a university in Ontario that is recognized by the Ontario College of Nursing; student must have successfully completed of the first year of the program with a high academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0).
Value: $1,000 per year of program
Deadline: Oct. 15

 
First Nations, Inuit, & Métis Post Secondary Education Bursary Awards

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to First Nations, Inuit, or Métis students in any program EXCEPT Creative Arts or Health Sciences, based on financial need, demonstrated academic merit, evidence of involvement and contribution to the First Nations, Inuit, or Métis community, and evidence of suitability and commitment to their field of study.
Value: June 1st

National Aboriginal Foundation Scholarships

Criteria: Awarded to full-time students who are Canadian Resident Aboriginal individuals who are either First Nation Status or non-status, Inuit or Metis and recognized by the Federal Government

Ontario Power Generation John Wesley Beaver Memorial Award

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to a student of Native ancestry (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) in a Technology, Trades, or Business program, based on strong communication skills, academic merit, and involvement in extracurricular activities, including volunteer work.
Value: 2 x $4,000

RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to Aboriginal students who are status Indian, Non-status Indian, Inuit or Metis, majoring in disciplines related and unrelated to the financial service industry.

First Nations, Inuit & Métis Post-Secondary Fine Arts Bursary Award

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to First Nations, Inuit, or Métis students in any creative arts or design program based on financial need, evidence of involvement and contribution to the aboriginal community, and evidence of suitability and commitment to field of study. Recipients will have demonstrated academic merit and performance, as well as talent and skill demonstrated through a work sample.
