Entrance Scholarships
Entrance Scholarships reward accomplishments prior to commencing studies at Humber, and are normally allocated to tuition and related fees after acceptance of admission.
A limited number of entrance scholarships are available to full-time students entering a Humber postsecondary/postgraduate program for the first time. The value of these scholarships is $1,000.
Minimum criteria include academic proficiency, two reference letters (education, employment, community) and involvement in extracurricular activities. Entrance scholarships are available in limited numbers for selected programs.
Entrance scholarships will be awarded by decision of Humber’s Scholarship Committee. A student may not receive more than one entrance scholarship.
Humber gratefully acknowledges donations to the Scholarship Fund from the Humber Students’ Federation (HSF), Follett of Canada, Primus, and Pepsi-Cola Canada Beverages.
General Scholarships Conditions:

You must be approved into a Humber postsecondary/postgraduate program before being considered eligible for a scholarship.

Scholarships will be awarded by decision of Humber’s Scholarship Committee.

Scholarships are available for September registration only.

Where scholarships are grouped by academic school/campus, only one scholarship is awarded per school/campus.You must be approved into a Humber postsecondary/postgraduate program before being considered eligible for a scholarship.

The Montego Bay Achievers Scholarship
This scholarship is open to mature students from the Jane-Finch, Rexdale or other similar city-designated at-risk neighbourhoods in Toronto, who are entering any Humber postsecondary program for the first time. The successful recipient must demonstrate financial need and how they are working to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of their educational goals. Applications should be accompanied by the following supporting documentation:

one letter of reference (academic/personal/employment), and
-
a letter of approximately 250 words on "What I have done to overcome obstacles in pursuit of my educational goals."

Jean Augustine Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship is open to students from the Etobicoke-Lakeshore, who are entering any Humber postsecondary program for the first time. The successful recipient must demonstrate financial need and how they are working to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of their educational goals as well as participate in his or her local community.
This scholarship has been established in consultation with LAMP Community Health Centre, one of Humber’s Community partners, in honour of Jean Augustine. In 1993, Canadian politician Jean Augustine became the first Black woman elected to the Parliament of Canada representing Etobicoke-Lakeshore. An energetic advocate of social justice, she was a principal of an elementary school before entering federal politics. This award is worth $1500.
Applications should be accompanied by the following supporting documentation:

The John Cameron Entrance Scholarship
This scholarship has been established in memory of John Cameron, former director of Purchasing Services at Humber, from 1968 to 1979.
It is awarded to a student enrolling in any Humber postsecondary program for the first time who has achieved a minimum 75 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school. Applicants should include the following supporting documentation with their application: official high school transcripts from the last two years, one letter of reference (academic, personal or employment), and an essay, approximately 250 words, on "Why attending college is important to my education and career goals."

Carlos Costa Entrance Scholarship
All postsecondary and postgraduate programs: academic achievement (a minimum 70 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); letters of reference (one academic and two personal); an essay (approximately 250 words) expressing what they have done to demonstrate perseverance and endurance in the pursuit of academic, career and life goals.

The Dr. Winsome E. Smith Entrance Scholarship
This scholarship has been established in consultation with the Black Business and Professional Association, in honour of Dr. Winsome E. Smith, the first black Chair of the Board of Governors of Humber.
All postsecondary and postgraduate programs: academic achievement (a minimum 75 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); demonstrated financial need; two references (academic, employment) supporting the applicant’s participation in school activities/events and/or involvement in the black community; supporting documentation to include an official transcript of marks and at least two letters of reference.

School of Applied Technology
Computer Engineering Technology: academic achievement (a minimum 80 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); two references supporting demonstrated leadership and contribution to society.
Two-year or three-year programs in Electromechanical Engineering - Automation and Robotics, Mechanical Engineering Technology: academic proficiency; an essay (approximately 250 words) on “How would ___________ enhance the competitive position of Canadian manufacturing?” Choose one of Computers, Robotics, Automated Manufacturing or Computer Graphics.
TAC Foundation/Dinah and John Emery - Emery Entrance Scholarship
This scholarship was established to provide financial recognition to a student entering the first year of the Civil Engineering Technology program with the intent of encouraging him/her to consider following a career path in technical disciplines related to transportation. Selection is based on academic achievement (a minimum 80 per cent average) in the final two years of secondary school or equivalent; applicants should type a one-page, single-spaced letter (approximately 250 words) outlining their career goals relating to transportation. The successful candidate will be required to provide a short biographical summary to Financial Aid.
The B.O.L.T. (Tridel & Partners) Awards: Available annually to six individuals entering into the following diploma programs - Architectural Technology; Cabinet Making; Civil Engineering Technology; Heating, Refridgeration and Air Conditioning Technician; Home Renovation Technician; and Sustainable Energy and Building Technology. Each award is worth $1,670 each. Recipients for each award must have successfully completed grade 12 or equivalent and have either:

attended the Tridel Day of Discovery and completed a two week job shadowing experience on a construction site

completed a high school program related to the trades, or
-
worked in the construction industry for a minimum of two months

All postsecondary and postgraduate programs: academic achievement (a minimum 75 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); two references (academic, employment and/or personal) supporting the applicant’s suitability for a career in health services and outlining the applicant’s qualifications for this award; an essay (approximately 250 words) expressing the applicant’s beliefs in “Canadian citizenship and the value of national unity and pride.”
Early Childhood Education - Advanced Studies in Special Needs: academic achievement (a minimum 80 per cent average in the final two semesters of a college diploma or equivalent); two references from field agencies citing suitability to be a resource teacher of children with special needs.
Practical Nursing: academic achievement (a minimum 80 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); two references supporting demonstrated leadership and contribution to society.

School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism
Culinary Management: academic proficiency with particular emphasis on communication skills (must achieve a minimum set score on Humber’s English assessment test); some previous practical culinary experience; an essay (approximately 250 words) on “Why I wish to pursue a career in Culinary Management.”
Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association Greater Toronto Region: this scholarship provides $1,500 to one student entering into each of the following programs: Culinary Management and Hotel & Restaurant Management programs in Fall 2011. Eligible candidates must reside in the GTA. The Entrance Scholarship Application form must be accompanied by a 250 word essay on why they wish to pursue a career in their chosen program.
Recreation and Leisure Services: academic achievement (a minimum 80 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); academic achievement in communication skills (must achieve a minimum set score on Humber’s English assessment test); demonstrated community involvement as a volunteer (one page description of involvement); an essay (approximately 250 words) on “The importance of volunteerism to the health of a community.”

APEX Scholarship in Public Relations: open to all students entering the Bachelor of Public Relations degree directly from high school. Academic achievement (a minimum of 70% average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); extra-curricular leadership in secondary school studies or in the community; proven financial need as demonstrated by having been approved for OSAP. Application must be accompanied by:

Broadcasting - Radio, and Film and Television Production: academic achievement (a minimum 80 per cent average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); two references supporting demonstrated leadership and contribution to society.
Canadian Multicultural Radio Entrance Scholarship: academic achievement (a minimum of 80% average in the final two semesters of secondary school or equivalent); references showing significant contributions to high school journalism i.e. newspaper, yearbook, or any other media. Preference will be given to a student who represents cultural diversity
CNW Scholarship for Bachelor of Public Relations: open to students entering the Bachelor Public Relations degree directly from high school. Academic achievement (a minimum of 70% average in the final two semesters of secondary school); extra-curricular leadership in his/her secondary school or in the community. Application must be accompanied by:

Vanguard Entrance Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is open to students who are entering the Human Resources post-graduate program. Applications are to be accompanied with the following supporting documentation:

A letter of approximately 250 words on "why you wish to pursue a career in human resources and what makes you a rarity among your peers.’’

Preference will be given to candidates with volunteer experience.
Applications must be submitted to Financial Aid by July 29. Only the successful recipient will be notified.
