OSAP Process & Important Dates

Below you will find step-by-step instructions for applying to OSAP for both FALL and WINTER student registration

For information on OSAP loans and grants, or to apply for OSAP online please visit: http://osap.gov.on.ca

You may also apply by filling out a paper application, which is available for printing from the OSAP website. Please be advised that a $10 charge applies for the processing of paper applications. Online submissions are free of charge.

By Feb. 1 Process your application for admission at www.ontariocolleges.ca

This is considered the “Equal Consideration Date”.

You may apply to college after this date, but applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis

May Once you receive an offer or offers of admission from the colleges you applied to, identify the institution you plan to attend and confirm your decision online at : www.ontariocolleges.ca You must confirm your offer of admission BEFORE applying for OSAP
May Fill out the online OSAP application for the upcoming academic year

Available at https://osap.gov.on.ca/

If you complete a paper application, please submit it to the Financial Aid Office at Humber.

Please note: a $10 charge applies for processing OSAP paper applications. Online application is free of charge.

May Submit the Consent, Declaration, and Signatures pages at the end of the application along with any supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office at Humber

You may print these from the OSAP site or request the Ministry to send them to you.

You may be required to provide supporting documentation e.g. proof of citizenship, marriage, separation/divorce papers, affidavit and child tax benefit.

The signatures MUST be the originals – not faxes or photocopies. Make sure you send it to Humber College or the institution you are going to attend. Please do NOT send this page TO THE OSAP OFFICE IN THUNDER BAY!!

June Check status

Logon to your online OSAP account at https://osap.gov.on.ca/

NOTE: The Ministry normally starts confirming the amount you may qualify for sometime after June 1st.

Regardless of whether you submit an online or paper application in May, your status information will generally be available mid-June.

July Last chance to submit the Signatures page & supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office at Humber for September loan pickup, processing and dispersal

To avoid delay in receiving your OSAP loan documents, please submit these papers no later than the end of July.

A delay may mean that OSAP funding is not available early enough to pay tuition fees or buy books.

September Pick up OSAP loan documents. A loan document is your approved loan/grant form which is proof of your eligible OSAP funding

If you submitted your applications before July and are approved for a loan, your loan document(s) will be available for pick up as early as one week before the start of classes (Orientation week).

  • North Campus – Room B105
  • Lakeshore Campus – Outside Room A168a/168b
  • Orangeville Campus – In the Main Office

To pick up your OSAP you must present:

  • Your Social Insurance (SIN) Card
  • A valid Canadian government issued photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, provincial health card with photo, PR card, Canadian Citizenship card)
September Process OSAP loan documents

OSAP loan documents may be processed two ways:

  1. By the National Student Loan Service Centre representatives on campus during the first three weeks of school.
    • North Campus – B105
    • Lakeshore – A168a/168b
  2. Through designated Canada Post outlets if the National Student Loan Service Centre representatives are not on campus.
    • A list of outlets are available in the Financial Aid Office

To process your OSAP you must present:

  • Your Social Insurance (SIN) Card
  • A valid Canadian government issued photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, provincial health card with photo, PR card, Canadian Citizenship card)
  • Banking Information: name and address of bank, bank transit # and ID code and bank account number
September Loan Dispersal

After loan processing, the amount will be automatically deposited into your bank account. Your funding will not be accessible to you until the second week of school.

  • Approximately 10 business days from the time of OSAP loan document processing

Please remember to budget accordingly. You will need to have some funds available to cover the initial costs associated with your program.

Loans are disbursed in two installments:

You will receive 60% of your funding at the start of your semester

The remaining 40% will be issued at the beginning of your second semester or half way through your study period. Budget your money wisely!!

January Second Installment of OSAP Loan

You will follow the same loan document pick-up, processing and dispersal steps as those in September

January 26 Last day to apply for OSAP for the current academic year

Your aid will be calculated from the date your application was submitted/received to the end of your study period – NOT FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR

After this date, students are not eligible to apply for OSAP until the following May, if returning full-time for the next academic year.

This is also the last day to submit the Signature Pages and any Supporting Documents

Complete Renewal Application

 

OR

The Renewal Application is for students that are continuing in the same program at the same school and would like to receive OSAP aid for the following study period.

September Complete Continuation of Interest-Free Status / Confirmation of Enrolment form

Continuation of Interest-Free Status / Confirmation of Enrolment form is for students who are currently enrolled on a full-time basis and NOT receiving OSAP aid for the following study period.

November Check status

February 8 If your study period ends in April, this is the last day to apply for OSAP for the current academic year

May 15 If your study period ends in August, this is the last day to apply for OSAP for the current academic year

May Second Installment of OSAP Loan

If your study period ends in August, the second instalment of your OSAP Loan will be available to you. Please follow the same loan document pick-up, processing and dispersal steps as those in January
