Program of Study: Advertising Media Sales
Hometown: Cornwall, ON
Age: 22
Where in the Program: Currently completing my fourth and final semester
What did you do before coming to Humber?
I graduated secondary school in 2006 and took a year off because at that point I still had no idea what I wanted to do. After my year off I went to a college in Ottawa for a one-year certificate program called Pre-Animation/Illustration. I completed the program but realized I did not want to pursue drawing as a career, rather as a hobby. I then took yet another year off from school before deciding to attend Humber.
What are your classes like?
This is one of the main reasons why I love my program. My classes are so specific to the advertising industry and the teachers ensure that everything you need to know will be covered throughout the two years. The classes include (but are definitely not limited to) Media Planning and Buying, which is essential to working for an advertising agency in media sales (planning and buying advertising campaigns) and Professional Selling, which will teach you how to sell should you decide to be a sales representative for a station or publication (such as CTV or Toronto Star, for example.)
What do you most enjoy about Humber?
The faculty, the campus (Lakeshore - right on the water and beautiful historic cottages), and the friends I've made.
What are you doing/planning to do for your internship to gain practical field experience?
I will be interning at M2 Universal, an advertising agency, after I complete the program.
Why should someone interested in Advertising Media Sales come to study at Humber?
Because it is the only program like it, it is a great experience and the career opportunities are exciting and endless.
Favourite hobby/what you most enjoy doing in your spare time:
I don’t really get to do it often, but I love to travel. Anywhere and everywhere. I also love shopping and am a huge movie buff.
Favourite movie:
It is not possible for me to name only one movie. I will have to list a few: Anchorman, The Pursuit of Happyness, New York I Love You, Superbad, The Town, and the list goes on and on.
The food you could eat almost every day:
I could live (not healthily, of course) off of poutine. Quebec-style, made with cheese curds. Delicious!
