Humber College Chaplaincy - An introduction to our services...

CHAPLAIN

The word Chaplain is derived from the word Chapel, a place of worship and prayer, so there is a connection between the Chaplain and the spiritual needs of students. Everyone has a spiritual viewpoint that informs and impacts all aspects of life, so the Chaplain is available to provide spiritual counselling for students. Sometimes, just having someone to talk with helps.

INTERFAITH

There are many faiths represented on a college campus, so an Interfaith Chaplaincy service is offered by the College. The Chaplain can help the College and its students to relate to and interact with the persons and needs of the different faith backgrounds by providing counselling, coordination, facilitation and referral. For instance, if a student is seeking a place of worship or contact with or counsel from a specific faith group, the Chaplain can assist the student in finding such.

PRAYER ROOM

The Chaplain monitors and supervises the use of the Prayer Room, which is provided to the students by the College. The Prayer Room on each campus is an Interfaith Prayer Room and is open for use by persons of various faiths and so requires that those of each faith show respect for one another and their varying customs in using the facilities. The College has policies which govern such use so that fair consideration can be given to all.

WEB-PAGE

This Interfaith Chaplaincy Services web page provides information that may be helpful to students with regard to Chaplaincy policies, Prayer Room facilities and usage, Places of Worship, Interfaith Calendar dates, Contact Info for the Chaplain plus Links to access other helpful information.

OTHER

A Chaplain may also voluntarily help with the more general needs of students ie. in finding a club in which to participate, how to start a club, seeking off-campus housing, seeking help to speak English and so on. The Chaplain can provide information or help to direct the student to the available College services so that the student can determine the best possible source of assistance.

The information contained herein may be updated periodically.
