Employment with the Explore Summer Language Program

Monitors

Employment with the SLP

Each summer, the English Language Centre hires dynamic individuals to work as language monitors in the Explore Summer Language Program. The responsibilities of a monitor are numerous - in addition to conducting  workshops for students, monitors also act as conversation partners, tour guides, counsellors, "spirit-boosters", and residence advisers. While this position is intense and time-consuming, the rewards are substantial: make lifelong friends while helping them improve their English. This position also allows individuals to have fun at work; after all, where else can you get paid to go to Canada's Wonderland, Niagara Falls, Wasaga Beach, and the movies, while meeting people from around the world?

Requirements

Monitors are normally university students in their 3rd or 4th year of study. While monitors may come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, experience as a residence adviser and knowledge of the Summer Language Program / Explore Program are definite assets, as well as any ability/interest in music, drama or sports. Most important is a hard-working attitude and the ability to thrive in a team atmosphere.

Application Procedure

Please send a resume, cover letter, and a detailed description of the workshop you would like to lead to slp@humber.ca. Cover letters can be addressed to the Manager, English Language Centre, Humber College ITAL. Interviews are held at Humber's Lakeshore campus in early March. The application deadline is February 24th.
