Department of Liberal Studies

General EducationLiberal studies education is an integral and exciting component of every student’s experience at Humber College. In your diploma or degree elective courses, you will sit next to students who are studying to work in the fields of engineering, medicine, media, business, community service, and the arts. You will meet international students from dozens of countries around the world. The disciplines that make up the Department of Liberal Studies --- psychology, economics, history, philosophy, humanities, cultural studies, sociology and natural science --- help to prepare you for the 21st century career challenges and opportunities you will face. You may find yourself working on state-of-the-art technology while thinking about the philosophy of love and sex; about issues in crime; about musical pioneers; or about popular culture. In General Education or Breadth courses, you have the opportunity to engage in ideas that are at once unique, dynamic and life-changing.

Liberal Studies faculty are committed to student success. Their passion for knowledge and drive for excellence is contagious. They are highly educated professionals ready to provide you with a solid foundation for life-long learning. You will learn practical research and writing skills as well as gain insight into the issues that have interested human beings for thousands of years. You can travel to different parts of the world through our MILE Study Abroad programme and receive course credit at the same time. As global citizens, you will find that our faculty and the courses that they teach, whether in the traditional face-to-face classroom or the online environment, offer you unimagined opportunities for success.
