Humber hosts fifth annual R.I.D.E. launch

Date:
November 26, 2010

Humber hosted the 2010/2011 holiday R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program – a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of not driving impaired on November 25.

Representative members from the Toronto, Durham Regional, Halton Regional, Peel Regional and South Simcoe police services joined with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Humber Police Foundations students and staff for a kick-off ceremony inside the college, which has played host to the launch for the last five years. The event also gives students the chance to talk with police officers and get advice.

John Davies, Humber president said that he "hopes events like this will prevent drinking and driving during this current holiday season and will decrease the number of needless accidents on the road.”

After the ceremony, officers setup a spot-check on Humber College Boulevard.

Police officers will be ramping up their enforcement efforts as well as education and awareness efforts throughout the season as the chances of impaired driving increases during this time.
