Humber students get 30% off tuition

Date:
January 10, 2012

Humber students started 2012 with some good news – 30 per cent off the cost of their tuition which eligible students can apply for right away.

The grant, announced by the McGuinty government, will help keep the cost of postsecondary education affordable for Ontario students.

Laurel Broten, MPP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, was at Humber’s Lakeshore Campus to provide students with further details on the new 30% Off Tuition Grant program. “The grant makes postsecondary education more accessible and affordable for families in our community,” said Broten. “It is part of our government’s commitment to create the best-educated workforce in the world by giving our students every opportunity to succeed. Ontario’s future prosperity depends on it.”

The permanent 30 per cent off tuition grant will mean $1,600 in savings per year for a degree program up to four years and $730 in savings per year for students in diploma and certificate programs up to four years.

“A lot of students struggle to make ends meet so this grant will make a big difference in their lives,” said Naydia Williams, a second-year student in Humber’s Pharmacy Technician program. “In my case, I can do a lot with the additional money like pay my rent or pay for school supplies.”

Parent Sanjay Mitter says “anything that the government can do to relieve the financial pressure of education for families is a good thing. This grant may help students focus their energies on school work rather than stressing about working to pay for tuition.”
