The Raptors Basketball Academy is running at Humber College’s North Campus this week from Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30th.

The program, which has been offered at Humber for more than six years, is designed to give boys and girls between the ages of eight and 17 the opportunity to develop their basketball skills including shooting, passing, dribbling, ball handling and more.

In addition to on-court activities, an education station is incorporated into the daily schedule focusing on the importance of education and life-skills, to ensure a balance between work and play.

Jay Triano, head coach of the Toronto Raptors, welcomed participants on the first day and inspired them with an energetic pep talk.

“It’s important to strive for success and dream big. Hard work, commitment and dedication are important skills if you want be successful in anything that you do.”

DeMar DeRozan, who plays shooting guard, and Sonny Weems, who plays small forward for the Raptors, were also on hand mid-week to encourage the young players.

"The camp helps kids improve their physical skills like their mobility and stamina and build their confidence while learning to play basketball. The kids' energy is inspiring and I'm really happy to be a part of it," says Weems.

As the only authentic NBA instructional camp in Canada, the Raptors Basketball Academy helps participants learn to play, build their confidence and take their game to the next level.

More than 260 participants are enrolled in the Academy for the week.
