The write stuff

When Jordan Cohen replied to a job posting listed on Twitter for a copywriter position at Rethink, a creative advertising company in Vancouver, he was unsure if he would even hear back. "When I received a phone call from Rethink's owner and national creative director, my mind started racing. I was ecstatic that he called. A week later we met in Toronto and I was offered the job on the spot," said Cohen.

For Cohen, Humber's four-year Bachelor of Applied Arts – Creative Advertising degree program gave him the advantage he needed to get the job before he graduated. He started his postsecondary education at the University of Western Ontario in the Bachelor of Arts – Social Science program, but after his first year realized that the path he was on did not offer him the skills he needed to get the job he desired.

After much reflection, he realized he wanted to study creative advertising and was impressed with Humber's degree program, which he believed offered him a solid foundation he could build on. "I had an eye for design, but no technical knowledge to pursue this option. I always wanted to write and after learning about the copywriting side of advertising, I decided this was the program for me," said Cohen.

Humber's experienced and industry-connected faculty teach the creative aspects of advertising through copywriting and hands-on studio work combined with a theoretical, strategic and historical perspective. In addition, students develop their skills using state-of-the-art equipment, labs, classrooms and the Ad Centre, Humber's on-site advertising agency, where they work on real-client projects.

Students enrolled in one of Humber's four-year degree programs earn more than a bachelor's credential. They receive a solid academic education, practical experience gained through work placements, industry projects and competitions, along with networking opportunities.
