Humber students are aiming for a career on the course with the college’s Professional Golf Management program. The three-year advanced diploma is the complete package for those with a love of the game: students learn the business of golf, improve their skills on the course and gain experience working in the industry before even graduating.
One of the advantages of the program is Humber’s connection with the golf industry. Former PGA touring professional Bob Beauchemin and Canada’s National College University head coach Ray Chateau are two of the many experts that develop and teach the classes.
“We have some excellent resources with Bob and Ray,” says Alex Dumais, a second-year student in the program. “We have the ability to come into Humber’s swing lab and get lessons from very respected and knowledgeable instructors.”
The need for professional golf managers is on the rise and Humber’s program boasts a ninety-three per cent graduate employment rate for students moving into the industry. Golf facilities and sports equipment and apparel companies are seeking business-minded golfers who have a deep understanding of golf culture, can manage a course, pro shops, tournaments, special events and the day-to-day operations of their business.
In addition to the in-class portion of the program, students also complete two paid internships that give them a head start in the industry.
