“Now I can officially say that Humber is the best college in Ontario.”
And with that proclamation, Chris Whitaker began his tenure this week as Humber’s new President and CEO. He is the fourth president in Humber’s history.
Whitaker’s first order of business is to talk to students, faculty and staff to learn more about Humber and get the pulse of the organization. His initial goal is to build on the college’s strengths, most notably its breadth of programs, range of credentials, committed faculty and reputation for having a student-focused, high-quality teaching and learning environment.
“Leading a college is about building relationships and supporting student success in the classroom,” says Whitaker. “I want to know what the Humber community thinks we do well and where we can improve. Ultimately, I want to foster an innovative and quality educational experience that results in students graduating and going on to the careers they desire.”
Whitaker has worked in the Ontario postsecondary sector for more than 25 years. He was most recently, the President and CEO at St. Lawrence College, and prior to that was VP academic and Dean of the School of Business.
