In the midst of massive devastation, a small glimmer of hope shined.
That is what stayed with nursing professor John Stone, as he recounts his experience in Haiti.
Stone recently returned from a three week relief mission where he joined the Canadian Medical Assistance Team (CMA) treating fractures, tissue damage, wounds and infections.
“Even though these peoples’ lives have been virtually destroyed, they still have hope,” says Stone. “You especially see it with the kids. You wouldn’t think so, but they are resilient.”
Stone’s team was stationed in Léogâne, a small city about 35 km south of the capital, near the epicentre of the quake.
