Paralegal students compete in Osgoode Cup mooting competition

Four teams from Humber’s Paralegal Studies degree program will be competing in the Osgoode Cup Mooting Competition this weekend.

The teams, made up of two people each, will spend the weekend arguing both sides of a particular legal case. Preliminary rounds take place on Saturday, with the top eight teams advancing to the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Along with the student competitors, four Paralegal Studies faculty members will be attending the weekend as judges.

Humber has distinguished itself at past mooting competitions – at last year’s Osgoode Cup, a team made up of two first-year students, Paige Diebel and Fallon Burns, made it to the quarter-finals. At this year’s Capital Cup in Ottawa, sisters Sonia and Tania Oszurko made it to the quarter-finals, with Sonia also winning an individual oralist’s award.

“Some judges just pound away at questions,” said Tania in a previous interview. “It can be unpredictable and nerve-wracking, but it’s exciting too. That’s why we do it.”

Best of luck to all the Humber competitors!
