Psychology Applied 3: Paramedic

Course Description

This course examines the human relations and crisis intervention work of the paramedic. Classroom experiences will be combined with ideas and concepts from psychological sciences and clinical approaches to provide an integrated understanding of the complexities of dealing with the intervention and management of crisis situations in dealing with patient populations. Further the course will acknowledge the impact of crisis and trauma on paramedics and their families and will develop the capabilities of the student to deal with crisis in their own lives. Students will be able to demonstrate the effective use of nonverbal communication and mindful listening, as well as basic crisis intervention techniques. Students will develop an understanding of stress management techniques, and be able to compare and contrast healthy and unhealthy coping strategies. Only students in the Paramedic program can take this course.
