Crisis Intervention and Trauma

This course will introduce students to a variety of concepts related to crisis, crisis intervention and trauma. Specifically, models of crisis and trauma intervention will be discussed as well as processes related to each. The course will address the necessary skills for effective intervention, and highlight culturally competent practice. Cases commonly experienced by families and individuals will be explored, and interventions for these will be outlined. The course will build upon the skills and knowledge students have acquired in Counselling 1 and 2, and they will learn how to apply these differentially in situations of crisis and trauma.
