This course provides an overall understanding of the human resources function and its effect on the achievement of organizational goals and strategic objectives of tourism or hospitality organizations. The course examines topics such as the definition of human resources management, present and future human resources challenges, staff planning and selection, laws affecting the workplace, performance management, and key management skills. This course also provides students with an opportunity to practise some of the basic steps in conducting a successful job search. With a focus on their upcoming internships, students research industry companies at which they would like to complete the internship. Once students have identified their potential internship host, they create customized job search correspondence and then participate in mock interviews to further develop their writing and interview skills. Topics examined include research techniques, resume, cover letter and thank you letter composition, and interview skills.
