RF technology is a foundations course that introduces students to a number of basic concepts that they will encounter in later courses. It explores the technology and terms used in mobile communications systems, the architecture of a typical cellular base station, the concept of a cell and how communication is made between two cellular phones (analog and digital modulation), multiple access techniques, handoff, filters, coding, interleaving, and traffic capacity of a network. The course also explores the basics of the GSM system and trunking systems.
