This course focuses on a study of Layer 1, 2, and 3 functions applied to ground and wireless telecommunications networks. The course begins with a study of fundamentals of telecommunications; serial transmission standards; and physical layer concepts; followed by a detailed study of digital transmission systems, PCM and T-Carrier Systems. Data link Layer is studied with an emphasis on error detection, correction methods and HDLC standards for data link control. TCP/IP protocol Suite is examined as a practical example of Network and Transport layer protocol for data transmission over the Internet.
