The Qualitative Research Methods II course will be a 'hands-on' approach to collecting and analyzing qualitative data. This course prepares the student to conduct qualitative research in everyday settings. Students will build on the theory, skills and knowledge gained in Qualitative Research Methods I to carry out qualitative research projects. Students will engage in several hours of observation, in-depth interviews and focus groups using various methods (in-person, phone, online), and use visual methodology ('photo-voice') and secondary data to create research. Students will analyze the data to identify patterns and themes using different coding techniques, and prepare an explanation of the data. Students will come to understand how qualitative methods are utilized to answer research questions relating to various industry needs, such as understanding client populations and community needs, conducting program evaluation, measuring consumer satisfaction and public opinion.
