Success in research management requires knowledge of theoretical and applied management methods and the ability to use these methods in existing industry situations. In addition to learning how to research and identify sources of funding appropriate to the research study, conceptual models and practical applications of managerial and leadership roles in the research process are featured in this course. Specific topics include the behavioural aspects of research management and the communication component of team-building and leading research projects, including how to effectively plan and conduct meetings, present findings, and conduct creative brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas and solve problems. Special emphasis is placed on the evaluation of research findings and knowledge translation. As learning and business entrepreneurs, students will also have the opportunity to develop a portfolio directed toward career goals as a research professional in their field of interest, and conduct market research for the writing of a personal business plan.
