PLAR Process

PLAR Application

Candidates who demonstrate learning acquired through life and work experience that corresponds to a specific Humber College course or program may be granted PLAR credit in that course.

To receive credit for prior learning, a candidate will need to:

  • analyze prior learning
  • compare learning to specific course requirements
  • provide evidence of learning

Students may demonstrate skills and knowledge gained through experience in many ways:

  • Develop a portfolio (a collection of materials that document skills and knowledge)
  • Give a demonstration of a particular skill through roleplaying or simulations
  • Take a written or oral test / structured interview
  • Complete assignments that will show knowledge and skills in action
  • Develop a product that demonstrates skills
  • Participate in an interview

Transfer credits in a program may be granted for courses taken at other academic institutions. Use the Transfer Credit Application form.
