Your Career

By 2030, half the world's population is expected to speak English. Prepare now for your future by developing the skills and knowledge you need to be successful in postsecondary studies.

Our Program

Humber has been offering EAP for more than 20 years, and understands what applicants need. This intensive, full-time program includes academic tutoring, advisement, and academic study skills. The curriculum is geared toward non-native speakers of English who want to improve their communication skills for entry into college or university programs, or for further professional development. It consists of:

  • 18 hours per week of in-class instruction
  • two hours per week of computer-assisted language learning with an instructor
  • four hours per week of independent language lab.

Humber faculty are highly-respected, dedicated professionals who have been teaching, publishing and working in the ESL field for many years. They all hold postgraduate credentials, including solid training in ESL/EFL teaching.

Your Future Study Options

As part of Level eight, students earn credits toward a Humber diploma by completing a college general education course. When Level eight is complete, students are awarded a Certificate of English Language Proficiency - recognized by Humber as equivalent to a 213 Computer-Based Test (CBT), 550 Paper-Based Test (PBT), or 80 Internet-Based Test (iBT) TOEFL score. This qualifies you for admission to most of Humber's diploma and degree programs without further English testing.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma at or above the general level or equivalent
  • High beginner level of English
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Second Language) score between 97-200 Computer-Based Test (CBT), 400-540 Paper-Based Test (PBT), 32-73 Internet-Based Test (iBT) or equivalent
  • Placement testing in reading, grammar, writing, and speaking to determine level of study prior to program start.

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.
