Three consecutive semesters, beginning in September, January and May.
The explosion in the spa business means great news for your spa career. A 2006 study by the International Spa Association, reports that Canadian spas are rapidly increasing in numbers. Variations in types of spas means that you can focus your career to the direction of your interests - day spas, hotel and resort spas, destination spas, fitness and sports clinics, health and wellness clubs, condominium spas, nails only and medical spas - all have differing needs. Positions abound for estheticians, medical estheticians, skin care therapist, nail technicians, front-line staff, retail sales and spa managers. Graduates are also successful in starting their own businesses.
The Esthetician/Spa Management program at Humber's Business School makes the beauty/business connection, by focusing on both esthetic skills and on management. As a spa student, you will try out the various directions in which you can take your career during Spa@Humber lab time. Under qualified supervision, you will perform manicures, pedicures, facials and makeup application. Innovative therapies such as aromatherapy, oxygen therapy and hot-stone remedies are mastered.
Students learn the benefits of holistic health, and also train in the fast-growing medical spa business that includes procedures such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels. Observing certified technicians who perform other anti-aging procedures that correct skin issues gives you a big boost when the time comes to send out resumés. The spa has state-of-the-art equipment for these sessions to offer students the most technologically up-to-date experience.
Students are also responsible for the administrative aspects of the spa such as reception, performing client bookings, handling accounts, product sales and marketing. You will practice what you learn in business ethics, oral and written communication, retailing and presentation, public relations, sales techniques and spa management so that, as a graduate, you can build relationships as you sell your services and products to manage a lucrative spa.
The Humber Business School provides students with the skills and a rock solid foundation so that upon graduation you are equipped to perform as estheticians, makeup artists, merchandise assistants, account executives, retail specialists, marketing consultants and spa managers.
Students receive extensive hands-on experience in spa management and esthetician skills in the Spa@Humber lab.
A 60-hour work placement offers students experience in the real world. Humber will place students on-site at The Humber Spa.
