With the highest levels of broadband penetration and the lowest overall communication costs of almost any country in the world, it's not surprising that Canada has an edge over its competitors when it comes to software development. Canada's software advantage starts with its world-renowned work force and mature, technologically advanced telecommunications infrastructure that provides the backbone for all technology businesses.
Work as an enterprise programmer for e-commerce, enterprise software developer, junior software developer, intermediate software developer, website designer, web programmer, intranet developer, and extranet developer.
Humber's program provides the advanced concepts, skills and knowledge that those currently working in the field, or who are graduates of an information technology or computer studies program, need to increase their employment opportunities in the field of enterprise software development.
You will update and gain skills in electronic transaction processing technologies including electronic presentation of goods and services, online order taking and invoice generation, automated customer account inquiries, and online payment and transaction handling. Students are also taught to develop database-driven online catalogues, secure front-end presentations, move static billing statement data to an interactive web-based presentment server, and program for electronic payment methods.
The curriculum also entails teaching the skills to integrate customer relationship management and electronic data interchange to fit into any environment, building on existing hardware and software. Graduates are able to analyze, design, enhance and maintain enterprise software applications to support the activities of an organization. Based on academic performance, students may qualify for an internship/field placement at the end of the final semester. Graduates will also have the skills necessary to qualify them to write industry certification examinations in their area of specialization. Students enrol in one of the following profiles: Oracle Solutions or Enterprise Software Solutions.
The placement (minimum 280 hours) is optional and available to domestic students. It takes place at the end of the second and final semester. It may be paid or unpaid. To qualify, students must complete two academic semesters; carry a full course load in each semester; maintain a minimum per semester average of 70 per cent with no failures, and complete a work term preparation course.
Note: These placement opportunities can not be guaranteed. Details will be provided by the program co-ordinator at orientation and in the Career Connections course WORK 510.
