Beginning in September plus one paid work term
As more companies migrate away from traditional business models to embrace online platforms, the future of e-business marketing is booming. The increased challenges and benefits of the online global marketplace require individuals who understand and can harness the Internet's capacity for revolutionizing the way people do business. Internet sales have seen steady and continual increases. In the US alone, e-commerce sales were estimated at US$133.6 billion for 2008; this represents a 4.6 per cent increase from 2007 even as total retail sales were decreasing. Total private and public sector Internet sales in Canada reached an estimated $62.7 billion in 2007, up 26 per cent over 2006, the sixth consecutive year that online sales increased at a double-digit pace. Business is global, and it is increasingly virtual.
Choose from many exciting careers in the rapidly evolving world of e-commerce, including market analyst, e-marketing specialist, product manager, web content manager, logistics specialist, Internet marketer, web designer/content manager. Potential employers may include Rogers Communications, Microsoft Canada, Hewlett-Packard Canada, Telus-Daedalian e-Solutions, Electronic Data Systems, IBM, HBC, HSBC, TD Bank, Bank of Montreal, CIBC, small- and medium-sized businesses, and consulting companies.
Humber's Bachelor of Applied Business - e-Business Marketing degree integrates marketing with e-business concepts and practices. This degree combines cutting-edge technology practices with traditional business subjects that will prepare you to succeed in a highly competitive business environment. By graduation, students will have developed a broad array of competencies, including the ability to develop e-business marketing plans (product analysis, pricing strategies, distribution channels, promotional programs); employ project management and change management tools; analyze e-business financial issues and how these affect pricing, cost, and profit; and integrate effective e-business supply chain management strategies and detail how e-business can streamline business processes.
You have the first two years of the program in which to choose your field, and the next two years to complete your specialization. Courses in the first two years of study are not what distinguish your degree - they are what define it. This is a business degree, built on the platform of a solid business education - marketing, accounting, economics and law. Throughout the program, you will engage in analyzing a series of business and management scenarios for which you will prepare recommendations and solutions. In years three and four, you will work toward your specialization. This is your chance to gain practical skills through applied projects, such as developing business plans for real companies and working on industry-linked assignments. You will have the opportunity to develop processes and products from the idea stage through to execution. You'll learn from experienced faculty and a network of industry professionals.
