Your Career

Beauty and function form and purpose: all of these things are considered when creating an atmosphere within an environment that best suits a space. From colour, to furnishings, to light and texture, our Interior Decorating program brings it all together. Individuals and organizations are always looking to change or freshen up their look and the designers that make it happen are always in demand. A career in interior decorating can mean building a reputation as an innovator and an artisan that improves the working and living conditions of any environment of any shape and size. Learn the skills that will turn your creativity loose at Humber.

Our Program

The Interior Decorating program intertwines creativity with the practicality of building and touches on business application. Students are challenged by design theories, concepts and the language of the design industry. In addition they employ the tools of colour, light, texture and explore the selection of appropriate finishes, materials, textiles, objects d'art and visual elements. Students learn business practice, project schedule strategies, and product specification, as well as a variety of verbal and graphic methods of presentation and communication. Computer-generated drafting, manual drafting and sketching are vital skills that are in high demand in the industry. Additional topics include reference to building methods, barrier free environments, and sustainable material issues. To round out the learning experience, students explore mechanical, electrical and plumbing services.
