The 2016/2017 fee for two semesters is

– international $14,800.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
– Grade 12 English (ENG4U or equivalent) minimum 70 per cent
– Five Grade 12 U or M courses in addition to those listed above
– Overall minimum grade point average (GPA) 65 per cent
or
• Mature student status
or
• College or university transfer status

All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

Selection Includes Secondary Requirements: Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated and the result of the evaluation of additional secondary requirements. Secondary requirements may include a portfolio, audition, letter of intent, references, etc., and vary by program.

Our Program

Humber’s Creative Advertising degree program is unique in providing a creative education, whether you want to be a writer, a future account executive or an art director. We give you the opportunity to work together in creative teams, mirroring a real-life agency structure. From there, you’ll be producing the best of contemporary advertising, designing for real clients of the Ad Centre, our on-campus agency.

Your Career

A Creative Advertising degree allows you to develop and hone your strong creative skills, giving you the tools to work in a broad range of agency and corporate environments within the advertising industry. Working initially as an art director, copywriter or account co-ordinator, you may look forward to a career as a creative director or account supervisor or you can choose to pursue graduate studies.

Our grads and students are at the top of an exceptionally competitive field. They have distinguished themselves against other Canadian colleges and universities in industry contests including the 2015 Grip Juicer Competition – first place out of 14 teams, 2014 Advertising Standards Canada competition – first and fourth place out of 41 submissions from 20 schools, and the National Advertising Awards, where Humber recently swept the student category. That’s right: Creative Advertising’s teams took first, second and third place.

This year, two of our recent grads were named to the Strategy Magazine Report Card of top ten copywriters and Art Directors in Canada. Our grads and students have won a Cannes Lion award; three Cannes Young Lions; One Show Gold; the Carte Blanche for Creatives Award; Gold and Best of Show in the Media Innovation Awards; a CMYK Magazine Top 100 Creatives award; and a Young Guns award, as well as interschool competitions like the Design School Challenge run by the Publicis agency. Humber students won the CTV Campaign Challenge for election campaign advertising, have been featured on the cover of Applied Arts, and Marketing Magazine, and have won numerous awards from Applied Arts Magazine and the Design Club of Canada.

Our Industry Partnerships

Many agencies have donated their expertise to program development and stated their intent to provide work term and employment opportunities including FCB, MacLaren McCann, BBDO, Grip Limited, Y&R, Red Urban and Drive Agency.

Our Faculty

Our faculty is composed of professors who are both industry professionals and respected teachers. They teach the creative aspects of advertising through hands-on studio work, and then combine that with a theoretical, strategic and historical perspective drawing on sociology, psychology, ethics, literature, marketing and statistics to enrich and extend the understanding of advertising concepts and applications. You will develop advanced creative skills using state-of-the-art equipment in our multiple computer labs and digital classrooms.

We Are Award Winners

– A team of six third-year students won the 2015 Grip Juicer competition from a field of 14 entrants from the top schools in Ontario.
– A team of four third-year students won the Advertising Standards Canada competition and the $10,000 first place prize
– Three teams of third-year students swept the student category of the 2012 National Advertising Awards winning gold, silver and bronze
– Two 2013 grads won Gold and Best of Show in the Media Innovation Awards for their Twitter based campaign, “Surrender Your Say”
– A 2012 graduate, now an art director at Toronto agency John St., won a 2012 Webby Award for Best How To and DIY in Online Film and Video for his work on Rethink Breast Cancer. The video, which has more than 2.3 million hits to date.

On graduation, you’ll stand out from the crowd with a background that includes:
– skills to create the concept, copy and design for all forms of advertising: print, radio, television, and digital and emerging media
– knowledge of agency and corporate advertising best practices, as well as perspectives on consumer and business-to-business advertising
– proficiency using state-of-the-art equipment
– a comprehensive portfolio developed through participation in student design competitions
– experience working on creative teams, designing real-world campaigns for clients of the Humber Ad Centre, Humber’s on-campus advertising agency
– on-the-job training through a 14-week paid work term.

Work Placement

You will complete a 14-week paid* work term from January to April after semester seven. We will support you in developing effective job search skills and identifying co-op employment opportunities as you prepare to find your own placement.

Note: *Paid may include an hourly rate, honorarium or stipend.

Alternative Course of Study

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Creative Advertising degree program should consider applying for Humber’s Advertising and Graphic Design diploma program 04701. Graduates with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 75 per cent or more will be considered for admission to Humber’s Bachelor of Creative Advertising degree program. Graduates may then complete the degree program with the equivalent of six semesters of full-time study plus a work term. Graduates must also possess ENG4U, Humber’s COMM 200/WRIT 100 or COMM 300/WRIT 200 with a grade of 70 per cent or more.

Mature students (applicants 21 years of age or over) and/or transfer students (applicants with postsecondary education) should refer to the Mature Student Status and the College or University Transfer for admission criteria.

Humber also offers a two-year Advertising and Marketing Communications diploma program 04621.

Your Future Study Options

Qualified graduates of this program may be eligible to apply academic credits toward further study at many postsecondary institutions.

End Notes

Humber has been granted consent by the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this degree for a seven-year term starting August 30, 2010. In conformity with the Minister’s criteria and requirements, Humber will submit an application for the renewal of the consent for this program 12 months prior to the expiration of the consent. Humber will ensure that all students admitted to this program will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame.
