Fees/Scholarships

The 2016/2017 fee for two semesters is
– domestic $3,966.10
– international $14,200.
Amounts listed are the total of tuition, lab and material fees, student service and auxiliary fees for the first two semesters of the 2016/2017 academic year. Fees are subject to change.

ADDITIONAL COSTS:
Approximately $400 per semester – textbooks, certifications, other materials; there will be nominal fees to cover the costs of industry field trips in specific courses.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
– Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
– Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U) or Grade 11 U or M Mathematics (MCR3U or MCF3M)
– Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed
or
• Mature student status
or
• College or university transfer status

All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

Selection: Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated.

Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Our Program

Humber’s Hospitality - Event Planning diploma program offers students the knowledge, practical experience, industry exposure, and professional certification necessary to embark on an exciting and successful career as an event planning professional.

Our two-year program provides comprehensive learning and training opportunities aimed at assisting students prepare for and transition to valued positions in the event industry. In addition to in-class lectures and group work, the courses in this program use on-site event assignments, guest lectures from industry professionals, field trips to local events, networking at industry conferences, and case studies to broaden students’ knowledge and understanding of planning local, national and international events.

The Humber Event Planning Advantage

Hands-on Experience
In the first semester of the program you get immediate experience on site at an event. And for the next two years, you will be thoroughly immersed into the world of special events via networking, volunteering and event execution opportunities.

Work Placement

Work experience is integral to developing a diverse and successful career in the event management profession. You will participate in a comprehensive 8-week work placement experience in your final semester before graduation. Offering you more work placement hours than other event planning programs, Humber’s work placement opportunities deliver the competitive advantage of valuable on-the-job training and work experience. As the result of demonstrating the skills and knowledge gained throughout Humber’s program, many students transition from their work placement into relevant paid employment upon graduation. While on work placement, you will apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in the classroom to real event work in the field, network, and develop professional connections and relationships you will carry with you throughout your career.

Increasingly, special events are being recognized for their ability to influence consumer marketing, develop public relations and drive economic impact and tourism spending. For these reasons, Statistics Canada projects steady growth across the Canadian special event industry over the next five years. Whether you are interested in planning festivals or concerts, weddings and milestone events, conferences and meetings, or exotic incentive travel programs, or you’re interested in working for an event venue such as a hotel, or an event supplier such as an audio-visual production company, Humber’s program opens doors for you in this growing industry.

Professional Accreditation, Endorsement and Recognition

Students in Humber’s Hospitality - Event Planning diploma program have the opportunity to earn the following professional accreditation and certifications:
– International Wine Educators Guild Wine and Spirit Education Trust Level 1 certification in wine education
– Smart Serve Ontario Responsible Alcohol Beverage Service training and certification
– TrainCan Inc. Food Service, Safety and Sanitation certification.

Note: There is an additional cost for some of these certifications.

Study Abroad

Qualified students in this program are eligible to participate in one of the following experiential learning programs:

Short-Duration: Short-duration opportunities operate annually in May and are 10 to 20 days in length. Destinations include Europe and Asia.

Semester Abroad: Semesters abroad are held in the winter semester. For students in this program, the options include Europe and Asia.
