Fees/Scholarships

The 2016/2017 fee for two semesters is
– domestic $3,877.78
– international $14,200.
Amounts listed are the total of tuition, lab and material fees, student service and auxiliary fees for the first two semesters of the 2016/2017 academic year. Fees are subject to change.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
– Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
– Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above
or
• Mature student status
or
• College or university transfer status

All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

Selection Includes Secondary Requirements: Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated and the result of the evaluation of additional secondary requirements. Secondary requirements may include a portfolio, audition, letter of intent, references, etc., and vary by program.

Our Program

Interactive media is an ever-expanding industry that combines the creative and the technical skills to build the tools that we have come to depend on every day. Whether it is the design of a website for the next great product or the mobile app that helps people connect on the go, the creation of interactive media takes a diverse skill set that includes visual design, coding, the ability to imagine what has not yet been built and the production skills to build it – all within a dynamic, growing industry that is constantly reinvented by new technologies.

Humber’s Web Design and Interactive Media advanced diploma program helps you build the fundamental skills of the industry, gives room to self-specialize in the field, then guides you through the creation of a portfolio of work. The program also strives to create a culture that is passionate about the medium, fearless about new technology, familiar with entrepreneurial options in this field, and eager to engage in the interactive media community. Students in this program will also learn real-world skills through the use of our unique, state-of-the-art mobile usability lab where user experience comes to life.

Your Career

The interactive media field, also referred to as digital media, has been growing consistently at twice the national average for the last ten years. As digital technology becomes more central to our lives, there is an increased demand for those who can imagine, design and develop these experiences. These digital creatives are employed as interactive designers and developers in a variety of companies including interactive studios, advertising agencies, and as freelance designers. Increasingly, they are also becoming involved with start-ups to create the next great products/apps.

Our Industry Partnerships

The interactive media programs actively engage with industry in both the planning and execution of our courses. The Web Design and Interactive Media program has been built with the advice of numerous companies including Jam3, Xtreme Labs, FITC Conferences, Interactive Ontario, Design Axiom and Jet Cooper. In addition, we regularly engage with companies during the course of the year. Companies that have been involved with studio tours, guest speakers, portfolio review and mock interviews include Relish Entertainment, and Teehan & Lax.

Humber is an authorized Adobe Training Centre and member of Adobe Partners by Design, an alliance between Adobe Systems Incorporated and 27 of the top design schools in the world.

Work Placement

This program does not have a work placement component, however, within the final year, you are connected with an industry partner for an industry project. These are generally done at the studio of the industry partner, allowing you to get a feel for the studio environment and build relationships that can lead to employment.

Additionally, the program stresses engagement with industry through guest speakers, studio tours, facilitating freelance work and conference participation.

Your Future Study Options

Graduates with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 70 per cent or more may be considered for admissions to the four-year Bachelor of Digital Communications DC411. Graduates may then complete the degree program with the equivalent of four semesters of full-time study plus a work term. Graduates must also possess ENG4U or Humber’s COMM 200/WRIT 100 or COMM 300/WRIT 200 with a grade of 70 per cent or more. 
*Admission will be based on availability in the program.
** Diploma graduates may be required to take courses offered in lower semesters in order to meet the overall degree learning outcomes. Specific program GPAs and subject requirements are required for admission.
How to Apply
Humber graduates may apply directly to the college by completing the online application. Graduates from other colleges should apply through ontariocolleges.ca. Applying through the centralized application centre allows for the transmission of both your application and your college transcripts.
