Media Release

For Immediate Release

Toronto, Ontario – April 4, 2011 – Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning is pleased to announce the opening of its new Community Employment Service Centres in five locations in Toronto and Brampton.  They provide a full range of employment and training services for job seekers and employers, supporting them to achieve their employment goals.

Funded by Employment Ontario of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the Centres bridge the gap between employers’ hiring needs and individuals seeking employment.

“Ontarians will now be able to access all the employment and training programs and services they need to find in one location,” said John Milloy, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.  “This change is part of the McGuinty government’s Open Ontario plan, which will better serve clients and give Ontario the most highly skilled and educated workforce in the world.”

Humber’s Community Employment Service Centres offer job seekers free information and resource services, workshops, individual employment assistance and access to training and jobs. The Centres work with employers to meet their human resource needs by connecting them to qualified candidates for their jobs.

Humber’s services are provided by a team of professional, knowledgeable, responsive and client centered staff in five locations.  As one job seeker stated, "I would like to thank you so much for all the support and assistance you have afforded to me during my Second Career Application; with your help my application was approved. I am now officially enrolled at college. I really appreciate all the help you have generously shared with me during my application process. And also, I would like extend my thanks to all the staff who are always friendly and always ready to help."

MPP Mario Sergio – York West, said the Sheridan Mall centre is good news for the community.

“This is very welcome news for our riding," he said. "I am delighted our much respected Humber College will be able to provide such valuable resources to help and establish our community members in a time of transition; as well as to help bring out the best of their potential. Services such as these go a long way to help ensure strong healthy vibrant communities."

MPP Shafiq Qaardi echoed these sentiments for the April 15 opening of the North Etobicoke centre.

“I want to personally congratulate Humber College for the opening of the new Community Employment Service Centre in Etobicoke,” he said. “Your leadership and personal efforts are very much appreciated by all.
