Toronto, April 15, 2011 — Humber College Marketing Management students presented future marketing trends, on topics ranging from mobile marketing to social media, to notable Canadian industry experts at The Business School’s inaugural Emerge Conference this week.
Four teams were challenged to analyze how tomorrow's marketers can promote, advertise, sell and monetize future trends in mobile marketing, branding, social media, e-publishing and virtual product placement before they become mainstream topics. Each group presented a final report, known as an Emerge Watching Brief, to a panel of five business, investment and marketing leaders.
Top prize was awarded to six students who forecasted how marketers can use in-car infotainment consoles to provide commuters with accessible data, entertainment and real-time guidance.
"Each team gave us real insights into well-researched directions and marketing opportunities," said Mike Dover, Emerge panel moderator and co-author of the Canadian best seller, WikiBrands.
Eight student teams in the postgraduate certificate program had competed for the chance to present to the Emerge panel.
"Our team really did our homework for this competition. We tested our ideas and learned from real players in the marketplace about what they thought the future would offer as business opportunities,” said Hussein Kassam, a student on the winning team.
The Marketing Management program will hold the Emerge event every six months so students learn techniques in market analysis, trend tracking, presentational design and marketing.
"We make every effort to give our students real, first-hand experience rather than just theories about marketing and selling,” said Tony Gifford, Program Coordinator, Marketing Management. “The Emerge event brings in top tier experts to dialogue with and advise our students about their researched findings and trend tracking."
The Emerge Conference will continue on the web, as the groups have connected on LinkedIn and will continue to explore future trends.
