Project(s) Title: E-Ankle and Hydrol Valve
Funder: OCE Connections
Faculty Member: Lars Kristjansen, School of Applied Technology
The E-Ankle, an exoskeleton designed to aid those with a compromised foot function, and the Hydrol Valve, a small, low powered hydraulic valve that can handle high pressure, have been approved for funding by the Ontario Centres of Excellance (OCE) Connections Program and are currently underway with SAT staff member and president of Canadian Engineered Innovations, Lars Kristjansen leading the projects. “We are changing lives with new medical technologies,” says Kristjansen. The E-Ankle and Hydro Valve will be designed, constructed and tested by Humber students under Kristjansen’s guidance. When asked why he chose to include students in his project, Kristjansen stated, “it's an incredible learning opportunity for the students and using fresh minds enables new technologies to grow in innovative ways.” These projects are expected to conclude by the end of summer 2011.
