Distance audition FAQs

I live outside the Greater Toronto Metropolitan Area, how do I audition for your program?

First, apply to the Ontario College Application Service at www.ontariocolleges.ca
Next, meet the Humber College admission requirements. Then, log on to srs.humber.ca to book an audition. You will be given the option of booking an audition on campus, or sending in an audition DVD.

When do you accept self-recorded auditions?

Mail-in auditions are accepted as of March 1st.

When will I know if I’ve been accepted?

Typically, decisions are made within a week of receiving the audition. In some cases, applicants are waitlisted. Final decisions are made by the end of June.

I don’t have a camcorder. What should I do?

Find a friend who does, or else make use of your local audio-visual service provider.

What should be on the audition?

First, identify yourself at the start of the audition. In a clear voice, state your name, and your place of residence. Briefly describe your interest in acting and any relevant experiences you may have had. Secondly, perform two memorized contrasting (serious-funny) monologues. The length of a monologue should not exceed 2 minutes. Choose a monologue from a TV show, a film, or a stage play. Do not write and perform your own monologue. Choose material that you’d likely be cast to play. Avoid action scenes.

Where should I look when I’m auditioning?

Have a friend stand as close to the lens as possible. Look them in the eye and talk to them.

How should I be photographed?

Have the camera operator begin in a wide, full body shot and then have them slowly zoom in to a medium close-up.

Anything else I should know?

Yes, before mailing in your DVD audition, be sure to play it back on a standard consumer DVD player (not your computer) and verify the picture and sound quality.

Where do I mail it?
