How To Apply

What are the admissions/entrance requirements?


For the two-year AFTV diploma program the requirements are: An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with courses from college, university/college, university pathways or mature student status. Acceptance into the program is by audition and interview. Please visit our website at http://postsecondary.humber.ca/10351.htm.

How should I prepare for the audition and interview?


The audition should consist of two contrasting (one serious- one comedic) monologues from either a contemporary play, screenplay or television script. Each should be approximately two to three minutes in length. Here are some audition Do s and Don’t s: Don’t audition unprepared. Do seek help or coaching. Don’t use props. Don’t act action-sequences. Do practice with a camera. Don’t perform self-written material. Do choose speeches that suit your age and about which you feel passionately. Don’t perform more than one character. Do be prepared to improvise. Don’t mimic well-known movie actors. Do personalize the words. In the interview, please be prepared to discuss your previous experiences, your expectations and career goals.

What kind of jobs can I expect to get when I graduate?


There are no guarantees of acting jobs in the film or television industry but there is an assurance that the graduates will be competitive. Invited industry professionals regularly visit with our students and share their experiences. Occasional field trips and on set visits can be arranged with the help of our professional faculty. In addition, the program offers courses that emphasize industry specific business information.



Can I transfer any of these credits towards a bachelor’s degree?


Not at this time, perhaps in the future.

Do I require testing for admission?


No.

This program is offered at the Humber Lakeshore Campus.

When can I begin?


The program begins in September and runs to May.

How long will it take me to complete this program?


Two years.

Can I study part-time?


No.

What makes a successful student in this program?


Someone who is driven to share and express their thoughts and feelings. Someone willing to explore the infinite variety of human behaviors through the medium of their own voice and body.

What kind of English language requirements does this program have?


Must be able to speak and read English at a high level.
