Theatre Production

Students will learn how to bring a production to life in all areas of the performing arts and entertainment industry, including theatre, dance, opera, theme parks, cruise ships, concerts and trade shows.

What makes this program unique?

  • Instructors and guest professionals have up-to-date experience in the industry and may provide students with important contacts with professionals and employers
  • Productions are created as an equal partner with the Theatre Performance program, and our students work with professional directors, designers, and stage managers.

Who this program is for?

It’s for you, if you love the mixture of art and technology in the performing arts, appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship that goes into bringing props, costumes, set pieces and painted scenery to life, and enjoy the challenge of creating order out of the apparent chaos of artistic creation.

Where this program takes you?

Backstage, above the stage, and even hidden above the audience! Some graduates will find work as theatre production personnel: lighting technicians, prop builders, sound technicians, technical directors, wardrobe personnel, carpenters, riggers, scenic painters. Some will begin careers in stage management, while others will work with production service companies that provide lighting, sound, staging, props, costumes and pyrotechnics for clients in theatre, commercial entertainment, corporate productions, film and the music industry. Some of our graduates have started their own production service companies, while others have moved into management positions with existing companies.

How long?

Two years (four semesters)

Anything else?

Humber has a very flexible theatre in which we stage a wide variety of productions. The directors and designers with whom we work are often known for their unusual and creative approaches to the theatre. This creativity brings constant challenges, excitement, and learning opportunities to our work in the Humber Theatre production season.
