Thursday, November 28th, 2018, 10:00 am  - 12:00 pm, North, Room F229

Student Worker Session, Occupational Health and Safety Training (2 hours):

All students who work for Humber are required to attend a Student Worker Health and Safety Session. These sessions are designed to enhance students’ awareness of health and safety in the Humber workplace and to inform them about their rights and responsibilities as an employee.  Key topics covered in the session include an overview of the following:

  • The duties of the various workplace parties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and worker rights under the Act,
  • The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS),
  • Health and safety programs at Humber,
  • What to do in the event of a workplace incident or injury,
  • Fire Emergency procedures and,
  • Preventing workplace violence and harassment.

This training is mandatory for all work study students who work for Humber and/or the University of Guelph-Humber. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all students working for them attend a health and safety awareness session as close to their start dates as possible.

If a student has already attended a previous session he/she is not required to attend again; the supervisor must verify that the student has attended a session. This can be done by reviewing the student’s participation certificate or by contacting healthandsafety@humber.ca.

Records of training are kept on file and “Certificates of Participation” are issued to the department supervisors or managers for distribution to each student after they have attended a session.

Please note that the maximum number of participants for this session is 20.  Students are expected to register at least 48 hours in advance of the session.
