Humber College’s Industrial Design bachelor’s degree program is top-ranked among Canadian college industrial design programs in the 2009 Corporate Knights’ “Knight Schools Report”. “This recognition is a great honour for Humber College. We are especially proud of the fact that sustainability is a key aspect of our industrial design program,” says Denise Devlin-Li, dean, Humber’s School of Applied Technology. “Our faculty encourages students to develop innovative ways to solve environmental and social problems.” The report, which compares seven Canadian undergraduate industrial design programs, recognizes Humber for its commitment to sustainability, solutions-oriented curriculum and students’ participation in environmental internships and research. “Humber gained the top rating primarily due to its participation and achievement in industry competitions as well as the breadth of core and elective programs,” says Melissa Shin, managing editor of Corporate Knights. “Students excel at integrating sustainability into their educational experiences.” This recognition follows recent student success, including first-place awards at two industry events, the Rocket Show and the DX/Safety 1st Stroller Design Competition.
