Sustainability Through Energy
At Humber we have put considerable effort into saving energy. Some of which you'd probably notice, and some of which is behind the scenes . Saving energy means a lot of things for the school. It means Humber is making less of a negative impact on the environment, while it also saves on utility bills.

The Ultra-Efficient Chiller Plant. The main air conditioning system at the North Campus has been replaced with state of the art technology. The new system saves over 60% of the energy and $100,000 a year in electricity costs

Motion-Sensor Lights. You've probably noticed these if you've ever been on campus late. You walk in to a washroom to find it dark, but all of the lights come on as soon as you step in. Motion-sensors make all of the lights go out when nobody is around, as opposed to keeping the lights on all of the time. The aim is to have the lights in every space at Humber controlled by motion sensors. In many areas even the ventilation is controlled by the same motion-senor technology to save even more energy.

More Energy-Efficient Classroom Equipment. The recent additions to the Culinary Labs at North Campus include super-efficient induction cooktops, which are 60% more efficient than traditional cooktops.

RTOS software. This computer software allows the college to track its energy use in real-time. It helps the college better understand and manage its energy consumption, so it can gauge where it needs to improve.
