As an academic institution, paper use is a big concern. Both students and staff both find themselves using a lot of paper through the course of their time at Humber. The college aims to buck that trend, and encourage less paper use whenever possible.
Increasing the recycled content of copy paper.. By shifting the type of paper we purchase, and the way we purchase it, all paper used at Humber College can cause less environmental harm. Humber now uses paper that contains a minimum 25% post consumer waste, and the rest is from FSC sources.
Develop campus-wide protocols to switch to digital media when possible, as opposed to paper. There are numerous types of digital resources available to reduce the need for paper. The introduction of digital textbooks and the use of Blackboard can greatly reduce the amount of paper students’ use. For staff, Humber’s new ERP system will significantly reduce paper use by storing invoices and records digitally.
Increase the practice of double-sided printing: A large portion of what we print simply does not need to be printed single-sided. Printing 2 pages on a single sheet of paper can leave us with an overall paper use reduction of up to 50%. New technology has been rolled out across campus to make this possible.
