The 2012 Summer Jazz Workshop for Youth continues the two week format and is accepting students from across Canada and the United States. The workshop provides participants with access to high quality instruction in jazz and the opportunity to perform and record with other students and professionals who share their interests and passions.

Up to forty music students aged 14 -18 yrs will selected through a recorded audition process. Successful applicants attend daily classes and rehearsals that included combo rehearsals, master classes, workshops, improvisation clinics, listening sessions and professional concerts.

At the end of the first week of the workshop, students will perform at a local Toronto venue. At the end of the second week, all combos will perform at a Gala Concert and record in Humber’s state-of-the-art recording studio. Each student will receive an mp3 copy of their combo’s studio session.

Participants will be selected on the basis of talent and proficiency. Special consideration will be given for students who demonstrate strong talent but lack formal training in jazz. All participants will have the opportunity to work with nationally recognized professional jazz musicians.

Scholarship funds may be available for qualified students who demonstrate financial need.
