Caroldean Birch Memorial Scholarship

Carol was a trailblazer who roared into the parking lot of Humber College in a yellow 1965 Corvette with the top down. Fresh out of the private sector, Humber opened up new doors for Carol to see the potential of post-secondary education and how it had the power to transform people’s lives.

Carol began her career in the President’s office, providing support to founding President, Gordon Wragg and, later, Robert “Squee” Gordon. During this time, she met many international students and would regale family and friends with stories about their courage, dedication, and commitment. She shared her joy at helping them navigate their learning journey from accessing the many services Humber offered to giving them advice on how to survive winter as many had never even seen snow until their arrival in Canada.

Later Carol worked in the Marketing Department overseeing the publication of the Continuing Education Calendar. During her time there, she grew many friendships across Humber College’s academic divisions. She loved her time working with colleagues in the Marketing Department, known as much for their creativity as their fun-loving espirt de corps.

Her 30-year career at Humber made Carol a champion for education and an advocate for international students. In her honour, family and friends have established the Caroldean Birch Scholarship for International Students. The funds raised will be used to support international students in the middle of their studies.
