Renée Roth Memorial Award

Renée Roth was a true trailblazer and a passionate leader in the broadcasting industry. Renée was the daughter of Jo-Ann Silverstein, a Rosalie Award recipient, cherished wife and proud mother of 2, Rachel and Sam.

Renée's 20 year career in radio sales and leadership was diverse to say the least. She started as a rep for Q107 and Talk 640 in 1993, and became General Sales Manager at Corus Radio Toronto in 1998. Renée provided years of high level radio sales expertise, management skills and broadcast software knowledge to her clients, colleagues, and students just learning the business.

Renée managed high performing sales teams, launched radio stations, trained sales executives and was herself an award winning sales leader for 6 consecutive years.

Renée was also committed to serving her community. In 1994, she was a founding team member of Second Harvest, a perishable food recovery program in Toronto. In 1996 she chaired Toronto Taste, a fundraising event which raised $400,000 for Second Harvest and funded 22 new breakfast programs in the Greater Toronto Area. Renée was a member of the Second Harvest Board of Directors from 1997-2002.   In 2012, Renée facilitated her first class for Veahavta Street Academy, leading a group of adult students living on or near the street through a discovery of life skills which can be transferable to functional skills that an employer would find beneficial.

In addition, Renée donated her marketing expertise to various small businesses, focusing on young women entrepreneurs and mentoring women in business.

As a public speaker, Renée delivered workshops and training programs focusing on Retail Selling, Presentation Skills, Leadership Development, CRM, Strategic Sales Planning, Women in Leadership and Mentoring young leaders.

In 2005 Renée became Associate Professor at Humber College where she taught Sales and Marketing to first year students in the Radio Broadcasting Diploma program.

Renée created a path for so many to follow.

In Renée's memory, The Radio Trailblazers and Corus Entertainment have initiated a $1000 annual scholarship to a Humber student for the years of 2016 - 2018 inclusive.  Be a part of sharing in the memorial scholarship and donate today so we can make this annual award a permanent one for all the years to come.

Tragically, we lost Renée too soon, but with your generosity we can continue to support the development of young talent which will not only contribute to their future, but the future of our entire industry.
