Frank Cappadocia B.A., MA (CL)

Dean, Continuous Professional Learning (CPL)

A leader ‘of firsts’ Frank enjoys the thrill and challenges of new ventures. As the inaugural GM and Chief Operating Officer of the Ontario College Student Alliance, he represented over 110,000 college students at 16 Ontario Colleges. Moving to York University from CSA, Frank was the first Director of the Centre for Student Community and Leadership Development (SCLD). At York Frank was directly engaged in SCLDs physical relocation and reconfiguration dynamically improving its relationship with York’s 19 student unions and 392 student clubs. From York, Frank went on to Lakehead University’s Orillia Campus becoming its first Associate Dean of Student Affairs. He ended his 12½ years at Lakehead Orillia as its first Associate Vice-President of Administration and Community Engagement having launched its Athletics, Wellness, Lifelong-Learning, and Indigenous Initiatives offices.

In his current position as Dean of Humber College’s Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) operations, Frank’s taken on his sixth inaugural role. Tasked with building Humber’s new CPL ecosystem, Frank works with all six Faculty Senior Deans, CPL Associate-Deans, and dozens of external partners to deliver the 500+ professional courses CPL offers each term.

Known to be a solutions-focused, mission-driven leader, Frank’s spent the last 30 years trying to improve the quality of full-time, part-time, and continuing education student, staff, and faculty life. given the 12 executive positions he’s held at Ryerson (TMU), York, Lakehead and now Humber, Frank has one of the widest sets of professional lenses in Ontario’s postsecondary sector.

Known for his quick wit, humour and approachability, Frank maximizes opportunities wherever he can. He is absorbed and obsessed with everything leadership, which is his personal and professional passion. Frank’s received several provincial and three national level awards recognizing his educational program design successes and is routinely sought out as a leadership consultant and speaker with 400+ workshops he’s facilitated to over 20,000 participants. Frank holds a Master of Arts in Community Leadership from Regis University and – as a lifelong learner – is now completing his MBA in Educational Leadership with the University of Cumbria.

Bridge-builder, co-creator and change maker, Frank is proud of his humble beginnings and remains strongly committed to several community-based organizations like Victim Services, World Vision, and the Terry Fox Foundation.


Wanda Buote

Dean, Education & Training Solutions (ETS)

Under the direction of the Vice President - External Affairs & Professional Learning, the Dean, Education & Training Solutions is accountable for the overall development of the Education & Training Solutions, a continuous and professional learning business unit, comprised of the Real Estate Education Programs, corporate training initiatives, Associations & Professional Programs, Credential Testing, Transportation Training and other non-funded programs.

Wanda’s 30+ years of leadership and post-secondary experience at Humber College includes a variety of roles including her most recent role as Principal of Lakeshore Campus, Director of International as well as a number of roles within the Longo Faculty of Business including the Director of Continuous and Professional Learning, CE faculty, Director of Partnership Programs, and Associate Dean in the Business School. Wanda’s recent focus has been on delivering regulated programs for governing bodies such as the Real Estate Council of Ontario and the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario. One of Wanda’s greatest pleasures is supporting learners in their educational and career pursuits. Wanda has an MBA from Royal Roads University as well as Bachelor of Education in Adult Education from Brock University.

Kimberly Carter PhD

Associate Dean, Continuous Professional Learning - Faculty of Social and Community Services

Kim has spent 15+ years designing and delivering high-quality, accessible, academic programming so that people can secure meaningful work. Before joining Humber College, Kim worked at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Chang School of Continuing Education as a Program Director (2020-22) and Program Manager (2018-20). In addition to extensive administrative experience, Kim brings a valuable lens as an instructor, researcher, and consultant. She has taught at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, Okanagan College, and Toronto Metropolitan University. In the private sector, she has made significant contributions to the research, marketing, and community engagement strategies of both corporate and non-profit organizations.

Kim’s expertise in human rights derives from a combination of education and experience. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship, PhD, and Master of Arts in International Relations at the University of Toronto and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McGill University. While earning these credentials, Kim studied and worked in Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Israel.

Larisa Duravetz B.A., MA

Associate Dean, Continuous Professional Learning - Faculty of Media and Creative Arts

With over 15 years of experience working in the field of education, both in Canada and internationally, Larisa enthusiastically brings her expertise to the role of Associate Dean, Continuous and Professional Learning in the Faculty of Media & Creative Arts (FMCA).

Larisa is dedicated to supporting innovation in education, with a particular interest in flexible, competency-based curriculum design. This has been demonstrated through her work in developing a student-centered work integrated learning structure for over 33 programs, as well as having led the development of numerous international initiatives, expanding existing and potential partnerships with post-secondary institutions around the world including Asia, Europe, South America, and New Zealand.

Larisa holds a MA in Leadership Studies from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of Ottawa. She obtained an International Project Management Graduate Certificate from Humber and has her TESL Canada Certification.

Michael MacDougall

Associate Dean, Continuous Professional Learning - Faculty of Business

Mike MacDougall is a graduate of both St. Thomas University and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB, and the University of Liverpool in the UK. After obtaining his Bachelor of Education degree, Mike worked internationally in Japan for two years before settling in Toronto. Mike joined Humber College in 2011 as the International Program Manager responsible for the Ningbo/Jimei Chinese partnership program before moving on to become the Business Manager for the Longo Faculty of Business in 2012.

In 2016, Mike became the Director of Continuing Education for the Longo Faculty of Business, and was responsible for expanding the Faculty’s online presence, providing flexible learning opportunities for diploma students, re-launching the Centre for Employee Benefits which is Canada’s oldest pension education program, expanding enrollment within existing programming, and the development of several new partnerships with external organizations that have led to the creation of multiple new programs. Now, as Associate Dean, CPL, Mike is committed to furthering the expansion of partnerships, and developing continuous professional learning programming that will address the employment needs of students from Toronto, and across Canada.

Samantha Roach PhD

Associate Dean, Continuous Professional Learning - Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Dr. Roach (Samantha) has more than 14 years of quantifiable experience designing learning programs; delivering online and in-person learning; evaluating learning outcomes; and overseeing student support services. Her experience spans the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Prior to joining Humber College, she served as Director of Experiential Learning and Student Support at Western University in the Faculty of Engineering. In this role, Samantha oversaw the experiential learning and student support portfolios of the faculty which includes curricular and co-curricular experiential learning, the Career Services Office, the Undergraduate Services Office, Graduate and Undergraduate Student Councils, in addition to thirty-five student teams, clubs and groups. Samantha brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge having also served as a Senior Learning Partner at BMO; Manager of Curriculum Development at the Financial Advisor Association of Canada (Advocis); and lectured for several years in undergraduate and professional programs at various universities and colleges in North America and the Caribbean.

Samantha holds a Doctorate and a Master’s degree in Economics and is currently completing a second Master’s in Education (MEd) at the University of Toronto. She also recently completed the Life Design Studio Training for University Educators from Stanford University. She is the recipient of various awards as a result of her personal passion, dedication and commitment to excellence. Most recently, in 2022, Samantha received the Sharon A. Ling Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement by a Staff Member for her contributions and support to the academic mission of Western University. She has also written several publications including book chapters and journal articles.

Outside of her professional life, she likes to explore various trails, small towns and cities across North America.

Victoria Ryder-Burbridge

Associate Dean - Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness

Victoria Ryder-Burbidge is an experienced leader and educator with over 20 years in the wellness field. Dedicated to her job, she takes pride in her department providing excellence in professional education. As the Associate Dean of CPL, FHSW, Victoria will ensure the team stays committed to up-to-date, research-based teachings while actively pursuing new, industry driven certifications to help our learners meet their professional goals. With a master's in leadership from the University of Guelph (2106) and the receipt of Humber College's Distinguished Faculty Award (2018), Victoria is uniquely qualified to support her team of dedicated professionals who share her vision. Outside of this role, Victoria spends her days reading and walking her poorly trained but adorable dog.

Dave Smiderle PhD

Associate Dean, Continuous Professional Learning - Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology

Experienced leader with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Skilled in Learning and Development, Instructional Design, Change Management (certified in PROSCI-ADKAR methodology), Business Development, Research and Analysis, and Team Building. Proven track record in building local partnerships with industry and other key stakeholders.

Respected for creativity, strategic visioning and stakeholder engagement within the highly competitive non-post-secondary market. Industry experience includes private, public and educational sectors allowing for breadth of knowledge. Consultative leadership style that ensures all stakeholders are involved in some way before any actions are taken.
