This course is designed to give the student an understanding of the issues related to equity and access to justice and fair process for the most vulnerable in Ontario. To provide an understanding of the unique challenges and benefits of working with vulnerable persons in the Alternative Dispute Resolution context. It will examine rules of natural justice and the laws and procedures applicable when working with persons who face challenges due to vulnerability. It will cover issues as they relate to a matter being considered before an administrative tribunal, within the traditional court system and in other public sector settings. The Ontario Human Rights Code and other legislation related to vulnerability will be examined. The course will introduce how ADR can effectively be used to support the most vulnerable and the students will gain skills in advocacy when working with vulnerable persons.
