Conflict Resolution in Healthcare: It's Not So Healthy

This course is designed to give the student the skills required to provide conflict resolution support in the hospital setting. To gain these skills, the student will need to understand the healthcare system in Ontariop-the major structures, processes and stakeholders. The student will learn to appreciate the unique challenges encountered and concerns expressed by patients who access services in the Ontario healthcare system generally and in a hospital specifically. This course will also provide the student with an understanding of the unique challenges currently experienced by hospital-based healthcare providers. It is hoped that this understanding will assist the student in appreciating the complexity of conflicts in the healthcare system in Ontario generally and in the hospital specifically. The student will have an opportunity to apply conflict resolution skills learned in previous foundational coursework to the hospital environment with the ultimate goal being to assist every patient in receiving appropriate and effective care, in a timely basis.
