Introduction to Voice and Movement

Exercises from various techniques and practices, designed to promote endurance, suppleness, awareness, economy, and precision in moving, will engage students in the essential task of alignment and conditioning. Students will be introduced to the process of freeing and expanding the natural voice. Primary emphasis in this first semester of study will be on breath, spine and total body awareness as it affects voice production. Through improvisations and guided experimentation in a variety of practices, such as contact improvisation and authentic movement, students will explore the interrelationship of mind, spirit, voice and body.
