Health Wellness and Recreation for Senior Living

A focus on Health, Wellness, and Recreation assists in creating a balanced quality of life for residents in Senior Living Homes. This hybrid (on line and on campus) course includes a unique approach based on the exploration of the seven dimensions of wellness for diverse and mature audiences. Students will analyze the impacts of health, wellness, and recreation on determinants of overall health; and, identify the characteristics of various diverse populations to create effective strategies to meet their recreational interests and needs. Theories of aging, physiological age-related changes and strategies for healthy aging to promote healthy aging will be explored, along with common wellness and fitness fallacies. While on campus, students will create and implement strategies in a hand on approach, in order to positively impact resident health and well-being relative to the seven dimensions of wellness, including maximizing participation in diverse populations.
